Mbah Maksum's nationalistic spirit is an imagined community
Abstract
Mbah Maksum's nationalistic spirit is an imagined community, enabling the values of love for the homeland, pride as a citizen, and solidarity with fellow human beings to be fused. Mbah Maksum's nationalistic spirit is shaped by the embodiment of the creed "hubbul waton minal iman." The following are the implementations of Mbah Maksum's nationalistic spirit: 1). Together with the scholars of the Ahlussunnah wal Jamaah (NU) Islamic boarding schools, he expressed concern and ultimately took steps to anticipate the modernist movement. 2). He built a foundation of thought or roots of struggle based on ideas surrounding political issues and his stance against colonialist political practices, establishing Nahdlatul Wathan, or "the revival of the homeland." 3). His involvement in the founding of NU in Lasem was a concrete demonstration of his struggle for the nation. 4). He resisted the G30S-PKI (Indonesian Communist Party), to the point that the Al-Hidayat Islamic Boarding School complex became the defense headquarters for followers of the Pancasila ideology.
